Disney Chase Visa Types
There are two different types of Disney Chase visas. The first is the classic Disney visa, which has no annual fee. With this card, you earn 1% in rewards dollars on all card purchases. You also get discounts on merchandise at Disney retail locations and shopdisney.com (usually 10% off a purchase of $50 or more). Plus, you get 10% off select restaurants at Disney World and Disneyland.
The second type of card is the Disney Premier Visa, which has an annual fee of $49. With this card, you earn 2% in Disney Rewards Dollars on card purchases at grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations and most Disney locations. You earn 1% on all other card purchases. The benefits of this card are the same as those of the classic Disney Visa.
Is it worth it?
Now, let’s answer the question: is it worth it? There are many other cards that offer more rewards than the 1% back of the regular Disney Visa. However, if you travel to Disney parks frequently or buy a lot of merchandise on shopdisney.com or Disney stores, the regular Disney visa may be worth it, especially since there are no fees annuals.
To break even on the $49 annual fee on the Disney Premier Visa, you’ll need to spend around $2,450 to break even. Any expense above this amount would move you forward. Keep in mind that you need to spend this money at Disney Stores, grocery stores, restaurants, or gas stations with the Premier Visa for it to be worth it cost-wise.
Currently, promotions are underway for Chase Disney visas. The standard Disney Visa offers a $150 statement credit after spending $500 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. Visa Premier offers a $300 statement credit after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. These promotions may change periodically, so it is best to check current offers.
Disney Rewards Points
Let’s talk about Disney Rewards Points. With the regular card, you earn 1% on everything you charge. With the Premier Card, you earn 2% at Disney locations, grocery stores, restaurants or gas stations, and 1% at all other locations. These rewards points can be transferred to a Disney Rewards redemption card, which can be used for anything Disney. You can use these redemption dollars for anything at the Disney parks, to book Disney vacations, Disney cruises, purchases at Disney stores, and even for Disney Vacation Club dues.
Very Special Disney Vacation Club Tip
If you are interested in Disney Vacation Club (DVC), here is a special tip for you. You can purchase a Disney Vacation Club Direct contract using a Disney Visa. Why would you want to do that? Because there is a special offer of a promotional 0% APR for the first six months from the purchase date on select Disney vacation packages or Disney Vacation Club resort purchases. This can lead to significant savings on your DVC purchase. You can use your Disney Rewards Dollars to pay your dues or other expenses, effectively reducing the overall cost.
Who should get a Disney visa?
Only get a Disney visa if you are a Disney fan. If you regularly spend money with Disney or travel there often, it’s worth at least having the free card for some perks. People who enjoy having a super cute Disney credit card will also want to have this in their wallet. While there may be better cards for maximizing savings, they don’t have the Disney magic. Our recommendation is to get the free card if you want to take advantage of the discounts and photo ops. If you want to increase your savings on a DVC purchase or Disney vacation package, consider getting the Premier Card. You can cancel the card later if you do not want to continue paying the annual fee.
